Peanut Butter, Banana & Bacon Goodness (Cletus Style!)
Fresh from the skillet — new cookin' straight from the holler!
The King of Rock 'n' Roll knew how to eat! Elvis Presley's legendary sandwich combines creamy peanut butter, sweet banana slices, and crispy bacon between buttery toasted bread. Sweet, salty, crunchy, and downright sinful — the ultimate anytime indulgence. Put on your blue suede shoes and let's get to cooking, y'all!
I first heard about this sandwich years ago when I was watchin’ an old Elvis documentary late one night in the holler. The man loved his peanut butter and banana sandwiches, but I figured if The King was still around he’d want a little extra Southern flair. So I threw in some thick-cut bacon, toasted it up nice and crispy in the skillet, and created what I call the Elvis Bacon Sandwich — Cletus style. One bite and you’ll swear you hear “Hound Dog” playin’ in the background.
The first time I made it for the family, my cousin Bubba took one look and said, “Cletus, you done lost your mind puttin’ banana and bacon together!” Ten minutes later he was lickin’ the plate and askin’ for another one. Even my wife said it was “sinfully good.” It’s sweet, salty, crunchy, and melty all at once — just the way The King would’ve wanted it after a long night on stage.
Pro Tip from Cletus: Use ripe bananas for extra sweetness and thick-cut white bread. Serve hot with a cold glass of milk or sweet tea!
The magic is in the contrast: creamy peanut butter, sweet banana, salty crispy bacon, and buttery toasted bread. Toasting it in the skillet melts the peanut butter slightly and gives the bread that perfect golden crunch on the outside while everything inside stays warm and gooey. It’s sweet, salty, and crunchy all at once — just like The King liked it.
Best eaten fresh while the bread is crispy and the peanut butter is warm. You can cook the bacon ahead of time and store it in the fridge. Assemble and cook the sandwich right before eating for the best texture. Leftovers can be wrapped and reheated in a skillet to bring back some crispiness.
