¿Qué onda, hermano? Luchador coffee ain’t fancy café stuff. It’s a big glass of strong coffee, cooled down, sweetened with brown sugar or piloncillo, hit with cinnamon, and finished with milk, evaporated milk, or a splash of crema.
If you want extra passion, add a tiny pinch of cayenne. Taste it. Adjust it. Luchador style should be strong, a little sweet, and with a kick.
⏱ Prep Time: 5 minutes
🔥 Brew Time: 5 minutes
⏲ Total Time: 10 minutes (plus cooling if needed)
🍽 Yield: 1 big glass
⭐ Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients (1 big glass)
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee (or cold brew), cooled
- 1–2 tsp brown sugar or piloncillo (or to taste)
- ¼–½ tsp ground cinnamon (or a small cinnamon stick while brewing)
- Optional: tiny pinch of cayenne or chili powder
- 2–3 Tbsp milk, evaporated milk, or a splash of crema
- Optional: drop of vanilla
- Plenty of ice
How to Make Luchador Iced Coffee
- Brew the coffee strong with the cinnamon (use ground cinnamon in the brew or drop in a small cinnamon stick). Stir in a little brown sugar or piloncillo while it’s hot if you want it dissolved.
- Let it cool, or pour the hot coffee over a big glass packed with ice.
- Stir in more sugar if needed, then the milk, evaporated milk, or crema.
- Add the optional tiny pinch of cayenne or chili powder and a drop of vanilla if you’re using it.
- Taste and adjust. It should be strong, a little sweet, and have a kick.
Holler Tips from Luchador Cletus
- Piloncillo melts easier if you stir it into the hot coffee first.
- Cold brew works great when you already have it in the fridge.
- Crema makes it richer than regular milk. Evaporated milk is the diner-style middle ground.
- The cayenne is optional. Start with less than you think. You can always add more.
- If you brew with a cinnamon stick, fish it out before you pour over ice.
Variations to Keep It Fresh
- No heat: Skip the cayenne and keep it cinnamon-sweet.
- Dessert style: Extra crema and a little more piloncillo.
- Café de olla vibe: Brew with cinnamon stick and piloncillo, then ice it down.
- Vanilla: One drop is enough. Don’t turn it into a candle.
Cletus’s Kitchen Wisdom – Why This Works
Strong coffee stands up to ice and milk. Cinnamon and piloncillo give it that warm Mexican-pantry flavor. A pinch of chile doesn’t make it a hot sauce drink — it just wakes the coffee up. That’s the Luchador version of a morning punch.
Serving Suggestions
- With the fried breakfast burrito
- Next to chilaquiles or huevos rancheros
- After pozole, when you need something cold
- On its own, mask on, porch optional
Storage & Make-Ahead Tips
Brew a bigger batch of cinnamon coffee and keep it in the fridge up to 3 days. Sweeten and add milk or crema when you pour it over ice so it doesn’t get watery or separate in the jug.
